Early Voting Underway in Georgia for May General Primary

Early voting gets underway today for the May General Primary Election.

“Early voting runs through May 16,” said Franklin County Elections Superintendent Gina Chappalear. “In Franklin County, they can come in Monday through Friday between 8a – 4:30p to early vote. Voters need to make sure they have a valid photo ID with them when they come to vote.”

In Hart County, voters can cast their ballots from 8a to 5p at the Hart County Registrar’s office on Cade St. in Hartwell.

“We remind voters, our office location is no longer in the Courthouse,” said Hart County Registrar John Stercho. “We moved last year to our new address at 182 Cade Street, Suite B, Hartville, GA, which is directly across the street from the old Hart County hospital’s location. “

And because there are federal candidates in the May General Primary, there WILL be one Saturday for early voting on May 10th from 9am – 4pm.

This is a party primary, so you will have to declare your party affiliation. There will be Federal, State, and local races this election, which can be confusing to voters. Chappalear says there are a couple of ways to view a sample ballot ahead of casting your vote.

“You can go online to the Secretary of State’s office to the My Voter page and pull up a sample ballot for your precinct,” she said. “They will also be published in your local newspaper or you can stop by your local Elections or Registrar’s office and pick up a sample ballot to take home and study.”

Also, if you need a paper absentee ballot, now is the time to request one from your local Registrar’s office or Elections Superintendent’s office.

“They just need to call our office and request an absentee application,” Chappalear said. “They will fill that out and mail it back to us. Once we check it out and make sure everything is OK, we will mail them out a paper ballot, which they will fill out and mail back to us as well.”

“Our office is already accepting Absentee Ballot applications,” said Stercho. “You may request them by either e-mail, telephone, FAX, or in-person at our new office location. Mailing out of Absentee Ballots will begin on Monday, April 28th .”
