Groundhog Day has just passed us and around here he saw his shadow. This means that we will have six more weeks of winter. With that, we are having a short cold snap that is supposed to last a few days—with a chance of snow over the next day or two. Even so, signs of spring are appearing all over the place. Birds are signing in the morning. Flowers are popping out of the ground. Days are progressively getting longer.
As we look forward to the arrival of springtime, the Kansas City Royals are preparing for Spring Training. Yesterday crews loaded their equipment into a moving van for shipment to Surprise, Arizona. Pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training on February 20 and position players report on February 24 to begin working out and conditioning for the season ahead.
The Majestic Royals Team Store located in Kauffman Stadium will be opening up on Monday, February 13, 2012. The hours are 12:00 noon until 4:00pm Monday through Saturday. New merchandise is arriving for this upcoming baseball season. “Our Time” is the slogan for the Royals this year. Kauffman Stadium is the home for the 2012 All-Star Game. Many events occur over the three-day span, providing several days of entertainment and, hopefully, a flurry of visitors to Kansas City.
With the change of seasons, we look to God for all that we hope for. He provides everything that we need. Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 says, “There is an appointed time for everything, and a time for every affair under the heavens. A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to uproot the plant. A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to tear down, and a time to build. A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance. A time to scatter stones, and a time to gather them; a time to embrace, and a time to be far from embraces. A time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away. A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to be silent, and a time to speak. A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.”
So, as we look forward to the warmer weather, longer days, the crack of the bat, and the legendary call of “Play ball!” let us remember to treat each other with kindness and be grateful for each day that we are given.
