If you're the type of person into sports wagering, then this may be something worth checking into...not that any of us would condone such behavior. But that said, the early numbers have been released on who has the best shot to win the 2014 World Series.

The Toronto Blue Jays were the odds-on favorite to win the whole thing last year. They made huge moves in the offseason thanks to a fire sale from the Miami Marlins. But injuries derailed those hopes early and they finished with a dismal effort. Currently (as of Saturday afternoon), they are listed as tied with the Tampa Bay Rays for the 12th best odd to win the fall classic. Here are the current odds for each team:

  1. Los Angeles Dodgers, +700
  2. Washington Nationals, +800
  3. Detroit Tigers, +900
  4. T4 - St. Louis Cardinals, +1000
  5. T4 - Boston Red Sox, +1000
  6. Texas Rangers, +1100
  7. T7 - Oakland Athletics, +1400
  8. T7 - Atlanta Braves, +1400
  9. T7 - New York Yankees, +1400
  10. T10 - Los Angeles Angels, +1500
  11. T10 - Cincinnati Reds, +1500
  12. T12 - Tampa Bay Rays, +1800
  13. T12 - Toronto Blue Jays, +1800
  14. T14 - Kansas City Royals, +2500
  15. T14 - Cleveland Indians, +2500
  16. T14 - San Francisco Giants, +2500
  17. T14 - Pittsburgh Pirates, +2500
  18. T14 - Baltimore Orioles, +2500
  19. T19 - Arizona Diamondbacks, +3300
  20. T19 - Seattle Mariners, +3300
  21. Philadelphia Phillies, +3500
  22. Milwaukee Brewers, +4000
  23. Chicago White Sox, +4500
  24. T24 - Chicago Cubs, +5500
  25. T24 - Colorado Rockies, +5500
  26. San Diego Padres, +6600
  27. T27 - Minnesota Twins, +8000
  28. T27 - New York Mets, +8000
  29. Miami Marlins, +10000
  30. Houston Astros, +25000

Now if you have faith those lonely Houston Astros, you can pick up a nice payday if they were win the World Series. Now before you fall over laughing, remember that longer odds have paid off in the past.

On September 12, 2011, the St. Louis Cardinals were 500-to-1 to win and the National League title and 999-1 to win the World Series. A fan in Vegas put $250 down on both at the MGM Grand. The Cards won the NLDS in five games, the NLCS in six, and the World Series in seven games. The fan walked away with a grand total of $374, 750 for his efforts.

Now granted, this IS the Astros we're talking about, but we also know that strange things can and often do happen in Major League Baseball. So now that you've seen the numbers, where does your team rank? Do you agree with the odds, or does a possible long-shot stand out as an option to drop a few bucks?
