Early morning investigations keep officers busy

It has been reported by The Charlotte Observer that the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department was busy in the early morning hours Saturday with two separate homicide investigations in Charlotte.

The first investigation was after 3:30 a.m. when officers responded to a man, Gary Lane Jr., 36, injured with a wound from a gunshot. The man was pronounced dead by medical personnel at Carolinas Medical Center.

The victim had been in an argument with someone he knew earlier, 31-year-old Loren Funches, and he has been detained. This case is going to the District Attorney’s office to be decided what charges are to be given to Funches.

The second response was a little after 4 a.m. Saturday morning to another man who had been shot. This victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released yet.

The latest victim had been in an argument with several people on Friday evening. After the initial argument, the suspects go to where the victim was staying to continue the argument, shot the man, then left. The authorities are looking for witnesses.
