Early kidney disease intervention, free screenings in March and April

One out of every nine Americans has or will develop chronic kidney disease; and most affected do not realize the problem until the condition has progressed. In fact, 151 of the 550 people screened last year by the National Kidney Foundation of Maryland (NKF-MD) had results that warranted follow-up by their own doctors.

As part of NKF-MD’s mission of early detection and early intervention, KEY (Kidneys: Evaluate Yours) health screenings can identify early markers for high blood pressure, diabetes and kidney disease.

NKF-MD will hold the following free KEY (Kidneys: Evaluate Yours) health screenings:

Saturday, March 23, 2013
Walgreens Store #12752
17239 Five Points Square, Lewes, Del. 19958
8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Saturday, April 27, 2013
Walgreens Store #12130
909 Mt. Hermon Rd., Salisbury, Md. 21804
8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

No appointments are needed for the screening. Any adult can participate.

Lasting about 20 minutes, the screening includes a blood test, as well as blood pressure and weight checks.

For more information, call NKF-MD at 443-235-8407 or visit www.kidneymd.org.

Serving central and western Maryland, the Delmarva Peninsula and portions of West Virginia, the National Kidney Foundation of Maryland is the area’s only voluntary health agency dedicated to the prevention, treatment and cure of kidney and urinary tract diseases.
