Duke University has experienced a larger increase in early applicants ever this year with a 23% rise. Brown University estimates early applications in Liberal Medical Education would surge 25% in its 8 year combined BS/MD program. Northwestern University has early applications increase of 15% for the class of 2016. This follows an amazing increase of 26% the year 2010. John Hopkins University has an 84 increase in early applicants. Georgetown has a 1% increase. University of Pennsylvania is the only Ivy League school with a decline in early applicants this year.
Harvard, University of Virginia and Princeton have reinstituted early admission programs this year after cancelling it a few years ago. University of Virginia has unrestricted early action policy with over 11,000 applicants this year. Popular colleges have added an “ED II option”. This is a big change in early admissions this year. Success of early decision option at various schools such as George Washington University has resulted in a trend of other success that’s been growing recently.
Dozens of liberal arts colleges have added the early decision II round putting deadline to be January. Students who want to apply early decision programs in these popular colleges need to understand the rules surrounding different ED in carious colleges.Early decision is a binding commitment that a student is obligated to follow. If a student is accepted, he/she is obligated to attend the college. This calls for withdrawal of all other applications.
