Most students returning to school show off their new wardrobe, but the newest fashion statements are not purchased in the local designer clothing store. They are purchased from body piercing shops. The most popular, and easily visible, fashion statements to return to school with, especially high school and college, are ear piercings.
An interview with a female student who has returned to Allegheny College of Meadville, PA with a new ear piercing almost every year gives some insight into why students and other people are using ear piercings as the newest fashion statement.
What ear piercings have you had?
Industrial
Rooke
Inner Conch
Cartilage
Normal Ear Piecing on lobes
What made you want to get them?
I like how they look on my ear.
Do you remember how much they cost?
Industrial $75
Rooke $55
Inner Conch $35
Cartilage $30
Lobes $20
Have you had to remove any?
Industrial
Rooke
Why?
Industrial would not heal properly, and same with the rooke.
What’s your most recent ear piercing?
Inner Conch
One of the most common questions about any piercing is, did it hurt? So, did it hurt?
Almost passed out for the inner conch and industrial. The rooke was not to bad, but yes they all hurt to a certain extent.
Can you compare the pain to your normal earlobe piercing? Many people have those so it would be a good point of reference if it hurt more, less or the same.
All hurt more than a normal lobe piercing because of the position on your ear.
Were you given any special care instructions for it?
Either warm salt water or just an antibacterial soap and warm water.
Where did you get each piercing done at, not including your lobes?
Mickey's Tattoo Studio, Butler, PA
Would you recommend these shops to others?
Yes, especially Buddha's, the other is a bit overpriced.
