ELMS Students Place First in the Annual Griffin RESA 2013 Regional Middle School Math Contest.
McDonough, GA – Eagle’s Landing Middle School awarded 1st place in Division II schools (Medium Schools) at the annual Griffin Regional Educational Service Agency (RESA) Middle School Math Competition. Competing students alphabetically by first name, Brook Amero, Charity May, Dhruv Patel, Dylan McDowell, Ishani Rao, and Meghan Butler.
The main objective of the Griffin RESA Middle School Mathematics Contest is to stimulate an interest in mathematics through academic competition, and provide recognition to outstanding students.
Competition consists of a multiple-choice test, and ciphering round, with Divisions based on student enrollment. Selection of the top three teams are, based on a total team score. Math Teams are invited from Butts, Fayette, Griffin-Spalding, Henry, Lamar, Newton, Pike, and Thomaston-Upson Schools; the 30 participating schools, set a new record.
ELMS Breaks Ground on New Addition
McDonough, GA – The faculty, staff and students of Eagle’s Landing Middle School (ELMS) celebrated the start of construction funded by the recently approved Education Special-Purpose Local-Option Sales Tax (ESPLOST).
The initial construction will add an instructional wing, and a counseling suite. Upon completion, internal renovation to the remainder of the school building will begin with a projected completion date of late 2014. Renovation will include wireless access in all classrooms, a new gymnasium floor, and additional upgrades.
Those who watched or participated in the Ground Breaking Ceremony included 6th grade students, Erik Charles school board member, Principal Dr. Earlene Crump, Assistant Principals Larry Johnson and Mrs. De’borah Reese, teachers Ms. Yvonne Pope and Mrs. Dana Holmes, school nutrition assistant Ms. Vickie Grier, counselor Ms. Vonda Turner and representatives from Swofford Construction, Inc. These sixth grade students will see the renovation completed during their 8th grade year.
One additional item of interest, Assistant Principal Larry Johnson, teachers Yvonne Pope and Dana Holmes, counselor Vonda Turner and school nutrition assistant Vickie Grier have been a part of the ELMS faculty since the school opened 20 years ago.
The architecture firm of, Manley Spangler Smith Architects drew plans for the new construction and renovations; Swofford Construction, Inc. is responsible for construction.
