EA posted yet another large revenue quarter for the company, and with that, they commented on the upcoming consoles from Sony and Microsoft as well as what they are saying about Valve.
According to a report from IGN on Wednesday, EA CEO John Riccitiello talked about the imminence of next-generation consoles.
"[I] wouldn't say that we see much correlation between the results that Nintendo has just shown with their console debut of the Wii U and what we see coming.
"We would argue that what we're describing as Gen 4 is yet to come. And it's with that, we're excited about, and that's what we're investing in," Riccitiello said.
Riccitiello went on to talk about how Valve has yet to really define its system and how people will be able to build with it.
"Valve really hasn't put enough information out there to suggest whether or not they've got the wherewithal to compete with consoles. There are lots and lots of issues.
"Large-scale success in game consoles usually goes with multiple billions of dollars of investment, both in content development, investments made across a blend of developers and publishers, retail relationships, online relationships, consumer marketing, chip fabrication, manufacturing, supply pipeline and the rest.
"So based on what they've said so far, it could be anything from a cool niche product that appeals to Gabe [Newell] and his friends and people like me, to a product that actually has the shoulders to help lift our industry forward into what we're describing as Gen 4," Riccitiello said.
EA posted a $922 million in revenue for the quarter.
