EA Sports was the first company given the opportunity to show off at today's Xbox Event. Andrew Wilson with EA revealed the new Ignite engine that will power the sports games for the next generation. Madden 25, NBA Live, FIFA 14, and a UFC title will get releases for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on this new architecture in the next 12 months.
Andrew states the focus with Ignite is going to be on human intelligence and true player motion. He also iterated that games should be "intelligent, connected, dynamic, rich with emotion, and fun."
Fueled by EA SPORTS IGNITE, EA SPORTS games will be alive with players who think, move, and behave like real athletes and dynamic living worlds, transforming the way people play and experience games on next gen consoles.
"Athletes" in the games will feature advanced decision-making and human-like intelligence. Players will have the agility to change speeds and directions with true athletic motion, and stadiums and environments will come to life with living-worlds. The trailer showcasing what to expect can be seen below.
Andrew Wilson went on to say the following:
Through years of investment and innovation, we have built technology across EA SPORTS to create a game engine that will deliver stunning accuracy, realism and experiences that we previously could only dream about,
He added:
With EA SPORTS IGNITE and the power of next generation consoles, our games will come alive—with more authenticity, more emotion, more connectivity, and more fun.
According to EA, Ignite calculates formulas four times faster than the current console generation. Players will come alive with "contextual awareness and instinct" to help with the decision making. For example, in FIFA 14 a player’s sense of urgency increases as the match draws on. If a goal is needed, rushing to take a free kick, corner, or goal-kick if time is running down. Hopefully this will mean for some sports titles (NHL, NBA) we will see improvement to teammate A.I..
