Announced on the Need for Speed website, EA and Block agreed on a multi-year deal to have him in an advisory role on the Need for Speed series, with the game sponsoring him and his Ford Fiesta ST 2013 rally car.
Block will also release Gymkhana SIX, an installment of the YouTube series, via the Need for Speed YouTube channel.
“I feel like (Need for Speed and EA) both have the same goal in mind, to let people live out a fantasy of really pushing the limits of what you can do in the driver’s seat,” Block said. “We’re excited to show you how we’re taking things to a new level in Gymkhana SIX in just a few weeks.”
Ghost Games, who exclusively develops the Need for Speed series now for EA, said in a statement that they were excited to have the world-renowned racer on its team.
“Ken’s a true master of drifting, handling, and really turning the streets into a playground for cars,” Ghost Games said. “We were already huge fans of his before, and we know he will be a great asset in helping us provide gamers the most adrenaline-filled and fun racing experience in the industry as we move forward.”
Block has been named one of ESPN’s most influential action sports athletes in the world, winning five X-Games medals and 19 North American rally races.
The 2005 Rookie of the Year in the Rally American Championship, Block is one of just four Americans to score points in the World Rally Championship.
Block’s web video series Gymkhana has netted more than 250 million views to date.
