Jairus Byrd, Earl Thomas III, Devin McCourty, Eric Weddle and Charles Woodson were named as the top-five rated Free Safeties in the upcoming “Madden NFL 15” video game, Electronic Arts revealed on their official site today.
Former Buffalo Bill Byrd earned the top spot at the position with a rating of 96 after a four-interception season in 2013 despite missing five games.
Super Bowl Champion Thomas III was rated a 95 to earn the second spot at the position, thanks in part to a five-interception season in 2013.
McCourty earned a 94 rating in the game, due to solid man coverage ability in spite of being a converted CB, while the Chargers’ Weddle grabbed a rating of 94 as well.
16-year NFL veteran and seven-time All-Pro Woodson rounded out the top five FS with a rating of 86, despite his advancing age (37).
“There is quite a dropoff from the top four safeties in the NFL, but Woodson is still one of the best in ‘Madden NFL 15,’” Electronic Arts said on their official website today. “His physical skills have eroded a bit (86 SPD/84AGI/86 JMP), but his football smarts and intangibles still keep him ahead of almost everyone else. His 93 AWR (tied with Weddle for position best), 75 Man Coverage, 75 CTH, and 83 Play Rec are the main reasons why.”
“Madden 15” is set for an August 26 release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One home gaming consoles.
