EA promises free game to all who purchased 'SimCity'

Early purchasers of EA's "SimCity" are in luck! ...Said no one, ever. Except yesterday, when the company announced that it would provide a free PC title from its extensive library to those who purchased the game. In a statement released on March 8 on their blog, "The Beat," Maxis general manager Lucy Bradshaw admits of the initial server crashes "OK, we agree, that was dumb, but we are committed to fixing it," adding, in Oprah-esque generosity, "to get us back in your good graces, we’re going to offer you a free PC download game from the EA portfolio."

Those who've purchased and activated their game prior to March 18 will receive a voucher for a digital download of an EA PC game of their choosing. The shrewd move of setting the date in the future may tempt those on the fence about purchasing the already expensive title to take the plunge, with the promise of getting at least one working game out of the deal.

"SimCity" has been plagued with server issues since it launched earlier this month. Though progress has reportedly been made to restore function to the game, the initial issues have undoubtedly shaken the faith of gamers, and it is yet to be seen whether this new promotional gimmick will heal those wounds.
