According to a Mar. 18 report in the “BBC”, Electronic Arts is offering players of the PC version of “SimCity” a free PC game to make up for what it admits was a “dumb” launch. This free game can be any one of the following EA hits:
-
”Battlefield 3”
-
“Bejeweled 3”
-
“Dead Space 3”
-
“Mass Effect 3”
-
“MOHW”
-
“NFS Most Wanted”
-
“Plants vs. Zombies”
-
“SimCity 4 Deluxe”
Network problems and player dissatisfaction have plagued “SimCity” since its launch on March 5 because EA decided to make the newest version of “SimCity” an online-only game. Players say this online-only game makes for long waits and other bugs. At one point the problems led Amazon to temporarily suspend sales of the game.
Some players are so frustrated that they have found workarounds so “SimCity” thinks its online, when it's not. They can then play the game as a single-player. Other users have asked Maxis, the developer of “SimCity”, to make a single-player version of the game.
EA earlier said the way it launched the game had been “dumb” and that part of the problem was the way it set up its servers to handle the game. Also, it underestimated the number of players who would log on.
“SimCity” was originally going to be a single-player game like the older versions, but then EA decided to make it an online, multiplayer only game. This is because they wanted to add new, mutual challenges that real cities face like sharing resources with other cities, pollution, crime and so forth.
To get your free PC game you must have bought and registered “SimCity” before March 26.
