EA offers free game for Sim City problems

After a debacle, in terms of downloading the new Sim City, Electronic Arts is offering a free download to make the owners of the new Sim City a little bit happier.

Games available for free download include:

  • Battlefield 3 (Standard Edition)
  • Bejeweled 3
  • Dead Space 3 (Standard Edition)
  • Mass Effect 3 (Standard Edition)
  • Medal of Honor Warfighter (Standard Edition)
  • Need For Speed Most Wanted (Standard Edition)
  • Plants vs. Zombies
  • SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition.

The problems started on March 5th when the new Sim City became available for download. Quickly after the launch began, the servers were overwhelmed between online play and people downloading the game.

EA released this statement on their blog: "For Our Patient and Amazing Mayors - A Free PC Download From Origin,” EA apologizes for the issues during the “SimCity” launch, saying, “Our SimCity Mayors are incredibly important to the team at Maxis. We sincerely apologize for the difficulties at launch and hope to make it up to you with a free PC game download from Origin."

So how do you get your free game?

1. Register "SimCity" on Origin by March 25.

2. After registering, users will get an email about how to log in to Origin's site.

3. After authenticating their copy of "SimCity," users will see a "Featured Today" pop-up window that will have a free-game redemption link.

4. Using that link, "SimCity" players can select a game and the pop-up window will disappear from Origin.

It's not a great solution for a serious problem, but it's better than them just saying, "Sorry."
