EA 'Creates' a LittleBigPlanet clone

Electronic Arts announced a sandbox game this morning called Create, the description of which sounds strangely familiar to a game we all know and love, LittleBigPlanet.  They even use Sackboy!  Okay, that part's made up.  Here's a quick run-down:

"Creativity will be unleashed as players design environments with easy-to-use brushes and tools, including textures, props and animating objects that bring the scene to life. On the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, and MAC players can share any of their creations, solutions or challenges with the community through the console and also via the official Create website at www.create.ea.com. Friends can download and remix solutions and set challenges for other players to download and complete. Imaginations will run wild this holiday!"

Now the argument can be made that any genre-blurring original game will be copied and cloned until a whole new genre is born, much like all the Wolfenstein wannabes that eventually gave birth to the biggest genre today, the first-person shooter.  Let's also not forget that it wasn't that long ago that Grand Theft Auto 3 had so many imitators that it birthed the term 'GTA clones', and now that's a genre in and of itself.

When a game like LittleBigPlanet comes along that doesn't really fit into the existing genres, of course it is going to inspire other creators to do something similar, eventually establishing a whole new genre.  Is it really something we can blame EA for if they want to be a part of that?  Strangely, most gamers will probably still say "yes".

At the very least, Create gives non-PS3 owners a chance to experience something like LittleBigPlanet -- the game is coming to all three current consoles, the PC, and Mac.  PS3 owners also get the added incentive of Move compatibility, while no word of Microsoft's Kinect could be found.

Create is scheduled for release this November.

    @ EA sucks/pooheed
I don't think its fair to simply hate EA without reason. EA, despite their viciously mainstream past have invested in many good franchises recently including (through its purchase of Bioware) Dragon age Origins and Mass effect as well as in house production dead space.
The real enemy is not EA, who simply request a sum of money for several extra, insignificant features of the game, but Ubisoft, who require us to be connected to the internet 100% of the time we play a single player PC game.
In fact recently, EA has become my favourite games publisher, and that is coming from someone who has been playing hardcore games since he could talk. Haven't bought a single ubisoft title in the last year.

EA lost my favor when I played The Godfather and went to a weapon's merchant to purchase a gun and it took me to the Xbox Live marketplace. That was bullshit.

I don't mean to be a hater (like some other guys in the comments) but compared to LBP and especially LBP2 the game looks rather uninspired, bland and without personality. but thats only judging from the screenshots. Maybe it'll look better in motion. maybe...

For a moment there, as an obsessed LBP fanboy, I was angry at EA for copying them.

But that game looks so crap compared to LBP and LBP2 that I don't care. It looks embarrassing and has no personality.
