E85 world record: Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX

E85 fuel is quickly becoming the most mainstream racing fuel on the market. There is many benefits to running E85, and the most important one is speed! E85 has been used for a while in the racing scene, much longer before it was ever considered a "economy" fuel. The use of E85 reduces the chance of knock due to high intake temperatures. The following Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX has set the world record for a factory turbo quarter mile time. Let's check out the build specifications!

Most-Wanted's EVO IX

  • Buschur 2.0L
  • Buschur stage three head
  • Buschur ported manifold
  • Buschur 65 mm throttle body
  • Sparktech ignition
  • Completely stock EVO IX turbo
  • EPM o2 dump
  • Shep transmission and torque converter
  • AEM tuning by Crispeed
  • Built by AWD motorsports

High intake temperatures are created when boost pressure increases to the point of  friction of compacting the air particles together so tightly that it creates heat, which leads to detonation if the fuel has a low octane rating.  This detonation ignites the fuel before the piston is at optimal position placing enormous amounts of stress on the crank, rods, piston, cylinder walls, valves, and heads! Low octane rated gasoline is bad for race engines using forced induction and can lead to "boom, bang, sputter". The Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX is an amazing example of American engineering and the ability to modify no matter the fuel source. Check out the following footage of the E85 world record setting Mitsubishi EVO IX!
