The hype train on its way to E3 2014 has begun its journey weeks ago. As we have been hearing what we can expect from the event, I'd like to share a few things that I would like to see and some predictions. They are more predictions that I would like to see, but let's get on to them before I board the hype plane to L.A.
We have been hearing a lot about The Last Guardian, since it's first announcement. The excitement for Team Ico's newest title has been fizzling away the longer we wait for another announcement. The last we heard was that the team is still working on the title and as of yesterday, a rumor on NeoGaf states that the game has been cancelled:
However, just two days before Sony’s E3 2014 press conference, two different tweets from Russian journalists Andrey Zagudaev and Petr Salnikov who work or used to work at GMBox.ru are hinting at a possible cancellation of the game.
The first one simply says
The Last Guardian is over, boys
While the other is a bit more elaborate:
There is a legitimate rumor that The Last Guardian has been canceled.
This was speculation, as Shuhei Yoshida tweeted that this is definitely not the case. I thought it to be bogus, anyway. Plus, Sony has been all over this one, declining any truth to it. I believe that The Last Guardian will finally get a release date at E3 this year. Prediction numero uno of my Quick-Before-Flight-E3-Predictions-List (I'll come up with a better title before I hit publish on this bad boy)-here we go. The Last Guardian will have a November 11th release date and will be made available for both the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 3.
Also, Media Molecule said that they will not be announcing anything at E3 this year. I call their bluff and will say that they will be announcing the secret titles that they announced they were working on during Gamescom 2012. It's about time we hear what they have up their sleeves. You may remember David Jaffe insisting Twisted Metal was not going to be shown at E3 2010, and the Sweet Tooth truck made its appearance on-stage. The companies need to keep some secrets, right?
As for the Nintendo side of things, it would be great to see a reveal of the Nintendo DS title, Super Princess Peach for the Wii U and 3DS systems. While it would be great for a Virtual Console release on the Wii U, a new Super Princess Peach for both systems would be welcomed. The GamePad would be a very effective way to utilize Peach's raging hormones to get through the levels.
Animal Crossing: New Leaf has consumed hours upon hours of the players' time (over 400 logged on my Animal Crossing: New Leaf Edition 3DS). While we saw an implementation of the title on the Wii U through the Plaza, it would be a smashing idea to bring the title to the Wii U and move some more systems. Yes, this is wishful thinking, but to utilize the 3DS's StreetPass feature to bring things home to use on the Wii U version would make for even MORE addictive gameplay and even MORE hours to drown in the game.
Speaking of "smashing ideas", Super Smash Bros. Brawl will be ready to play at E3 and offering a Super Smash Bros. Brawl Invitational Tournament being streamed live through Twitch. The figures will be revealed and we can also assume that we will get a look at those. Now this is more of a safe assumption than a bold prediction, but they will come as singles and bundled, much like Skylanders and Disney Infinity. It will be great to see Zelda packs, Mario packs, and see some awesome singles such as Samus and the villager from Animal Crossing. Not going out too much on a limb there.
I think Sony will announce the PS Vita Slim colors and have them on display. Although I think this may happen next year, rather than this year, but it's still not impossible.
Since Rare is no longer working on the Kinect titles, this is their year to shine. We will see either a Banjo and Kazooie or even another Viva Piñata title. It is a beloved franchise and I would love to see either one of those make a reveal at E3 this year.
I will also predict that more information about Persona 5 will be revealed, as well.
Well, that is all I have time for, folks. This was just a quick little feelings and predictions. While there are so many predictions flooding the internet, I wanted to toss in a few I have.
