After a wild and successful seven-year run on the late night show, Chelsea Lately, is coming to an end this August. Handler announced her intention two months ago to depart from the network when her contract with E! expires at the end of the year.

Following a month-long “celebration” of episodes, Handler will get a live, hour-long farewell at the end of the summer, according to E! “I myself am more surprised than anyone that I was able to hold down a job for seven years, and it was a fantastic seven years,” Handler stated. “I will always look back at my time on E! as most people look back at their time in college. I'm glad I went. ”

During an interview with Howard Stern in March, the comedienne referred to her TV home as “a sad, sad place to live.” She continued to reveal, “They don't know what they're doing [at E!]. They have no ideas. It's a failure.”

The very sassy Handler has been actively pursuing future projects with other media outlets. Discussions of a potential project with Netflix have been surfacing. Although talks of the Late Late Show with CBS have been 86’d, Handler continues to find her niche, claiming that Netflix would be an ideal situation because it will allow viewers the luxury of tuning in anytime they want.

Despite the negative discussions revolving around the matter, E! and Handler released this statement: “We are very proud of ‘Chelsea Lately's’ long-running success and the unique space that the series carved out in late night television,” said Suzanne Kolb, President of E! “Chelsea brought a distinct voice to late night with her acerbic wit and fearless commentary and we look forward to providing fans with a memorable send-off that lives up to that tradition. Most of all, we are grateful to the ‘Chelsea Lately’ team for making this show so special for seven years.”

So why descend from the throne, Handler? According to THR, her ratings are not what they once were. But the Chelsea Lately host remains a bright beaming star in E!’s sky. They revealed Handler’s close Hollywood friendships helped book A-list talent that may not have been possible otherwise.

Chelsea Lately will continue airing weeknights at 11p.m. through her finale on August 28, 2014.
