On Friday August 16, Tom Brady wasn't the only AFC East quarterback to dominate his opponent. E.J. Manuel continued to display his passing accuracy in Buffalo’s second preseason game. This time Manuel completed 10 of 12 passes for 92 yards, and one touchdown. The Buffalo Bills have been completely thrilled with Emanuel’s emergence so far. Manuel looks wise beyond his years and shows the poise of a prominent veteran.
As of now, it looks like the starting job is E.J’s to lose, but he must continue to progress next week and into the third game to secure his spot. One thing that Manuel did not display on Friday night was his running ability. He only ran for one yard in his limited playing time.
For E.J. to become an instant hit in the NFL, he will likely have to run when the chance is provided. There were times at Florida State when he would hang onto the ball too long, and stay in the pocket. He should let opponents know that he can beat you multiple ways on the field.
Right now, E.J. is mainly using dump offs and short passes, but the efficiency is beautiful to look at. If he does maintain this course, Buffalo could be a sleeper for a playoff berth. If you don’t believe me, ask Washington, Seattle, and Indianapolis.
