The Houston Dynamo continued their climb in the Eastern Conference with another October win this time a 1-0 win over the Montreal Impact behind Ricardo Clark's fourth goal of the season. It was the 11th time since arriving in Houston that the Dynamo have posted a win in the final month of the season. All-time in the month of October, Houston has compiled a record of 11 wins, 11 draws and 3 losses. The win moved Houston past Montreal into third place with three games to play. Victory number 100 for the Dynamo franchise in less than eight seasons of play was just its second against Montreal in six tries.
From the opening kick, the Dynamo took charge of the pitch characteristically imposing a workmanlike dismantling of the Montreal Impact. Clark whose goal in the sixth minute of play was the difference maker talked about the difference between this game and six weeks ago in Montreal.
"It's coming down to the end. We want to get points and that's what we're doing. Whatever happened in the past is in the past. This just another team, a good team. And we just wanted to get three points at home and that's what we did.”
Except for a ten minute stretch of the second half, the Houston Dynamo forced the play and kept the Impact on their heels for much of the match unlike six weeks ago in Stade Saputo when Montreal handed the Houston its worst loss in franchise history.
Head coach Dominic Kinnear was pleased with the win.
“"Great win. tough game. Tally had some good saves and we had some good chances to go further ahead. Great win. the run that we're having to leap frog some teams pick up some points showed great determination great character of the team."
Houston has quick turnaround meeting Sporting KC on Tuesday at BBVA. SKC sits a point up on Houston pending their Saturday night match in Columbus.
