“Once upon a time, there was a family who were real close until tragedy struck. Things were great until something dark had entered and their lives would never be the same again. Can the Ouija Board be cursed or had it been another item in the family’s possession...” – “M is for Maleficent”
Trick-or-Treat Films has unleashed their new short movie last week, “M is for Maleficent” starring Kristine Knowlton, Sarah Walker, Brett Walker and Michael Sweeney. The company is known for making and creating short films throughout South Jersey. “M is for Maleficent” is about a family that once was close gets a surprise visitor when tragedy struck the family – an evil presence appears. The movie is filmed around a Ouija Board, is also silent and done in black and white. Nothing says scary like a Oujia Board at Halloween time!
I got to talk to the writer and producer of the movie, Kristine Knowlton and she told me that the movie was made for a competition, the ABC’s of Death Part 2. The film can be seen there at http://26th.abcsofdeathpart2.com/entry/m-is-for-maleficent/. All the likes, views and watches certainly add up in a competition like this.
Here is a brief interview with Kristine Knowlton.
EJ: What does maleficent mean?
KK: Maleficent means harmful or evil in intent or effect.
EJ: What inspired you to make “M is for Maleficent”?
KK: I really like scary movies, it’s Halloween time and a lot of the inspiration came from checking out other films in the competition. Getting together with friends was the only way to do this. My boyfriend and film partner, Michael Sweeney is a big help and support when it comes time for filming.
EJ: Why use a Ouija Board? Can’t that be a dangerous opening doorway to the unknown?
KK: It can be if you don’t know what you’re doing. Keeping a clean and blessed board is always the key. Dusting the negativity away and saying prayers before and after usually keep the spirits at bay.
EJ: Have you used a Ouija Board in the past?
KK: Yes. I used it a lot when I was younger. I have seen and witnessed a lot of scary things. It wasn’t until earlier this year that I even thought about the Ouija Board until I was cast in Ted Mangan’s “What They Let In”. I think the Ouija Board is making a comeback in films.
The film also stars Brett Walker who is known for the movie, “PEMBROOK”, his daughter Sarah Walker who has been filming “Zombie TV” and Michael Sweeney who wrote and starred in the movie, “Reflection” also by Trick-or-Treat Films. Brett Walker also handled the SPFX on the movie. Composer, Matthew Lo Re also shines in this film by providing the score for the film. Lo Re has also composed for many movies and has a passion for his art.
