Val Chmerkovskiy is undoubtedly one of the most popular dance pros on ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars.” He’s also a supreme lover of children. Put the two together and Val is hoping his fans will come through with a very special birthday wish, to build a school, according to Wetpaint on Feb. 21.

Val turns 28 on March 24, one week after the debut of Season 18 of “Dancing With the Stars.” So what does he want for a birthday gift? And why does he need our help?

Those of you who know me, know that I rarely ask for favors... unless it’s for someone else,” Val tweeted on February 15. “My birthday is coming up and all I want is to be able to build a school for some very special kids in a torn, completely impoverished area of Ghana, Africa... where there is a lopsided lack of opportunity...and so much promise... Education, in my opinion is the key to facilitating any sort of future opportunity and success. I'm asking FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART. Please make a donation to Pencils of Promise.”

Val added that $1 from each supporter could build nearly six fully functioning schools. You can give your dollar or more HERE. The goal for the project is currently set for $25,000.

There’s no way I’d rather celebrate my 28th birthday than to have my friends and family help build a new school for PoP,” Val added in a note on the donation page. “Every single penny donated goes directly to creating schools, programs, and global communities. For me, education and the arts are the foundation of my career. So, for my birthday, I want to give the gift of education. Let’s get started!”

Val is overwhelmed by the kindness of his fans so far and is confident of reaching his goal. Please help Val have a wonderful birthday by donating to Pencils of Promise on Val’s birthday page!

Happy Birthday, Val. . . and thanks for caring!
