Although the official "Dancing with the Stars" season 17 cast won't be officially unveiled until the Sept. 4 episode of "GMA," a Sept. 2 tweet by spoiler source DWTSGossip confirmed the identities of the six ladies who will compete for the mirror ball trophy when the show premieres on Sept. 16.
The tweet, which was directed at a user who asked about confirmed celebrities for the fall 2013 edition of the hit reality dance competition, revealed that the six ladies whose identities were leaked by TMZ on Aug. 28 will indeed take to the ballroom.
The field of female mirror ball hunters includes "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" actress Valerie Harper, "Saved by the Bell" alum Elizabeth Berkley, "King of Queens" actress Leah Remini, "Glee" star Amber Riley, "The Voice" social media correspondent Christina Milian, and "Jersey Shore" alum Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi.
Other reports point to potential partnerships. The TMZ article claimed that Harper is paired with Tristan MacManus, while Berkley's voice is easily identifiable in an Instagram video introducing Val Chmerkovskiy's new partner. An Aug. 29 WetPaint Entertainment exclusive claimed that Polizzi is working with alleged new pro coach Sasha Farber. Finally, suspicions were aroused when PureDWTS reported that that four-time "DWTS" pro champ Derek Hough's publicist recently began following Riley.
If the reports are correct, an interesting quandary remains, as Farber's name was not previously on the list of confirmed male pros. They would suggest that either an additional female celebrity will participate, or one of the confirmed male pros not already associated with a celebrity will not dance for the mirror ball trophy after all. Since Tony Dovolani appears in a video teaser posted to Instagram, the likeliest candidates to exclude would be either Mark Ballas or Gleb Savchenko.
Tune in to "Good Morning America" on Sept. 4 for the official "Dancing with the Stars" season 17 lineup reveal.
