With less than two weeks remaining until the Sept. 4 "Dancing with the Stars" season 17 cast reveal on "Good Morning America," an Aug. 23 post to super fan site PureDWTS tossed yet another name into the contestant rumor pool, and it's a good one.
Citing her recent move to Los Angeles, the post tabbed Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas as a possible "DWTS" season 17 celebrity personality. The talented gymnast shocked long-time coach Liang Chow when she unexpectedly left his tutelage on Aug. 19, and sparked rumors that her westward move indicated an intent to pursue a career in entertainment. Given that rehearsals for the show will begin shortly, the timing of her relocation is suspect.
If she does indeed compete, Douglas would be the third Olympic gymnast to go for the mirror ball trophy. Probably largely thanks to their familiarity with intensive physical training and athletic physiques, her predecessors have performed well during their respective seasons. Shawn Johnson won season eight with Mark Ballas and finished second during the 2012 all-star edition with Derek Hough. Aly Raisman, who competed alongside Douglas on the 2012 Olympic team, finished the spring 2013 season in third place.
"Dancing with the Stars" season 17 premieres Sept. 16 on ABC with an all-new cast of celebrity characters.
