Derek Hough, the only 5-time champion of any version of “Dancing with the Stars” recently collaborated with U.S. Ice Dance Champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White. He opened up about the experience of working with the pair and Just Jared shared some snippets from that interview on Jan. 3.
Hough has been helping the skaters prepare for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. The 27-year-old dance pro recently said of the experience, “For me, it was an honor to be able to step into that world for a moment and to work with the champions. I was so blessed to be a part of that.”
They worked in the dance studio first where Hough got the chance to get to know the pair. He was amazed by their hearts, spirits and called them “just good, all-around people.” Later, when he accompanied them to the rink and watched them translate what they worked on in the studio to movement on the ice, he was impressed. He said the translation from studio work to the ice was remarkable.
When we actually ended up going to the rink and seeing them putting it on ice, it was remarkable to see how they translated it onto the ice. It was so impressive.”
Meryl and Charlie will be competing this weekend in Boston as part of the 2014 Prudential U.S. Figure Skating Championships. Hough will be returning to season 18 of “Dancing with the Stars” in March.
