DWTS recap for April 7, 2014: The switch-up episode

The switch day dawns and Julianne Hough takes to the judges’ table. The scores combined with last week’s show will decide who is sent home next week. No one was eliminated this week.

The show did its best to play up the jealousy factor between the pros watching their stars with another partner but the new pairings were interesting and definitely a challenge this week.

Scores:

  1. Meryl and Val – 39
  2. James and Cheryl – 35
  3. Amy and Mark – 34
  4. Charlie and Peta – 33
  5. Drew and Witney – 33
  6. Danica and Maks – 32
  7. Cody and Sharna – 32
  8. Nene and Derk – 32
  9. Candace and Tony – 28

The Highlights:

James paired with Cheryl in the Tango was very dynamic and wonderful to watch. The movement was sharp and crisp with the added bonus of Cheryl arriving on the scene on a gold throne (scepter and all). You would never have known that these two had not been dancing together all season.

Drew dancing the Cha-cha-cha with Witney was a crowd-pleaser even if Len did call him “a dancing Ferraro Rocher” because he wore a gold suit. Witney certainly managed to add a spring to Drew’s step and his showmanship did the rest. Certainly worth a watch… or two.

Mark gave Amy more space in the Salsa and it worked incredibly well. The girl can dance! She pivots and shakes those hips with the best of the dancers in the competition. Although still inspirational, Amy is a major contender.

Meryl and Val in the Tango where beyond words. Her footwork was so precise and the two were well-paired. It's almost a little disappointing that Meryl did not earn 10's across the board but there is always next week.

For those who love Cody Simpson, he did show off some of his vocal acuity as a preface to his performance with Sharna.

If you like Derek Hough's choreography, the Macy's Stars of Dance feature with all pros (including Kathryn McCormick) was breathtaking and powerful.

Albuquerque viewers can catch DWTS Monday nights on ABC channel 7 at 7 p.m. (MST).
