Professional dancer and two-time mirror ball trophy winner, Kym Johnson, is leaving "Dancing with the Stars" this year to pursue a new opportunity in Australia. Us Magazine broke the news of Kym Johnson's departure on Aug. 19, 2013. She claims the break is only temporary and promises to be back for "DWTS" season 18.
Kym Johnson released this statement, “I will be taking the next season off from "DWTS" USA, so that I may accept an amazing work opportunity back home in Australia. I am excited, nervous and humbled by this chance and look forward to sharing more about it with you soon. I wish all the dancers and celebrities in season 17 nothing but love and success and hope to see you all back on the dance floor for season 18.”
Kym Johnson first appeared on the Australian version of "Dancing With the Stars" in 2004. She came over to "DWTS" USA in season 3, and has been a reliable cast member ever since. Kym won "DWTS" with Donny Osmond in 2009 and Hines Ward in 2011.
"Dancing with the Stars" season 17 starts Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, on ABC, channel WJXX in Jacksonville, Fla. The complete new "DWTS" season 17 cast will be revealed Sept. 4, 2013, on "Good Morning America."
