DWTS Karina Smirnoff shares her diet and fitness tips

The latest episode of "Dancing With The Stars," will air tomorrow at 8pm on ABC. Examiner.com caught up with Karina Smirnoff yesterday and she shared some of her diet and fitness tips.

Smirnoff likes to eat steamed veggies, salads and free range chicken and wild caught fish. One of her favorite snacks at the moment is Honey Bunches of Oats Greek Honey Crunch. She said, "I'm always on the go, especially during the "Dancing With the Stars" season. My body definitely craves whole grains and protein to keep up with the demands of training. My favorite go-to snack is Honey Bunches of Oats Greek Honey Crunch, which has 33g of whole grain per serving! A lot of times I'm grabbing snacks on the go so whether it's a piece of fruit, almonds or a handful of my favorite cereal, I never run low on fuel! It's also my favorite breakfast since the combo of whole grains and protein fill me up and keep me going through the morning! I top it with Silk Pure Almond Milk since I try not to drink dairy."

Smirnoff also likes to snack on watermelon. "Staying hydrated is crucial. We are working out 6-8 hours a day and sweating a lot, so I make sure to drinks lots of water, whether it's plain, electrolyte water or coconut water. It's also important to "eat" your water, so I often snack on watermelon – it hydrates and gives you energy."

In terms of fitness Smirnoff said, "prepping for DWTS each week is a lot like training for a marathon – you have to work on your stamina and stay focused. However, you also have to be moved by the story you're telling and the music you're dancing to."

She wants viewers to remember that when they see major transformations on the show, these celebrities are training for hours a day. She knows that everyone can't dance for hours every day, but she encourages everything to try to work out three times a week. "I think the key to a healthy body is finding the workout regimen that you can maintain and enjoy. Dancing 100% keeps me in shape and helps me to maintain my core, which is extremely important for dancing," Karina added.

You can also check out her DVD, "Shape Up with Karina Smirnoff, a dance-inspired fitness cardio routine. Tune in tomorrow to see Jacoby Jones and Karina Smirnoff dance the night away on DWTS.
