The "Dancing with the Stars" fall 2013 season resumed Nov. 4 on ABC with performances set to the music of the legendary Cher. Although dance styles represented ranged from the elegant Viennese waltz to the sensual rumba, one of the evening's most entertaining offerings came from the feet of comedian Bill Engvall, who put his own special spin on disco not just once, but twice.
During his rehearsal segment with pro partner Emma Slater, Bill admitted that he was sad to see Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi get the boot at the close of the Oct. 28 show, but said he felt like he deserved his spot in the "DWTS" season 17 competition. He was excited to be dancing disco, since he grew up in the era and was confident he could "bring it," even with his "fantasy girl" Cher seated at the judges' table.
When Bill and Emma hit the ballroom to perform live, they delivered a super cute iteration of a disco number set to the sounds of "Strong Enough." It wasn't perfect, but Bill put so much enthusiasm into the number that the final product was nothing if not charming.
Bruno Tonioli quipped that they'd gotten "the disco inferno going" and likened Bill to "John Travolta very, very faded and very, very far away." Carrie Ann Inaba noted that though he'd danced off the beat several times, she still loved how he "made my day better." Guest judge Cher pondered her words for a few moments before finally saying she was "amazed" by their lifts and "even though you missed a bunch of stuff I still thought it was brilliant."
The judges awarded Bill and Emma 24 points for their disco, which placed them at the bottom of the week eight leader board to close out the evening's first round.
Later in the two-hour episode, the duo wound up dancing the disco yet again, this time in a couple-to-couple match-up challenge against reality star Jack Osbourne and Cheryl Burke. Although Bill and Emma did their thing with the same dedication and flair, Jack and Cheryl took the three available bonus points.
Despite their paltry 24 point total, Bill and Emma successfully advanced to week nine, and will return to the ballroom when the "Dancing with the Stars" fall 2013 season resumes Nov. 11 on ABC.
