When week four of the "Dancing with the Stars" fall 2013 season concluded Oct. 7 on ABC, a talented trio of mirror ball hopefuls found themselves in a three-way tie atop judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Julianne Hough's leader board with an impressive 27 points each.
The first celebrity to post the week's high water mark was "Saved by the Bell" alum Elizabeth Berkley Lauren, who was second in line to perform. She and pro partner Val Chmerkovskiy turned in a fiery Argentine tango that gave Hough chills. Had the duo danced later in the evening, they may well have scored the first perfect 10 of the season, as marks tend to increase as the night wears on.
"High School Musical" actor Corbin Bleu and Karina Smirnoff earned their share of the top spot on the leader board with a paso doble that opened the show's second hour. The routine, which didn't rely on tricks and gimmicks, showed off Bleu's natural dance ability. Although the judges criticized his hip placement, Tonioli still deemed the dance an "incredibly powerful performance."
Last to claim a share of the lead were "Glee" actress Amber Riley and four-time "DWTS" pro winner Derek Hough. Despite ongoing problems with her knees that prevented her from rehearsing her routine with Hough until Oct. 4, Riley danced her "Love Lockdown" tango with near professional grade panache. Tonioli called the effort "pure, unmistakably classic, amazing tango" and the others agreed.
The rest of the cast rounded out the week's leader board as follows:
- Actress Leah Remini and Tony Dovolani, 24 points
- Reality star Jack Osbourne and Cheryl Burke, 24 points
- Singer and actress Christina Milian and Mark Ballas, 24 points
- Reality star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi and Sasha Farber, 24 points
- Actor Brant Daugherty and Peta Murgatroyd, 21 points
- Comedian Bill Engvall and Emma Slater, 21 points
The evening's lowest scoring couple, "Rhoda" star Valerie Harper and Tristan MacManus, who nabbed just 18 points for their Viennese waltz, were sent packing during the show-ending elimination.
The "Dancing with the Stars" fall 2013 season continues Oct. 14 on ABC with the surviving couples.
