The "Dancing with the Stars" fall 2013 season continued Sept. 23 on ABC with a second round of performances by the 12 couples vying for the mirror ball trophy. Early on in the two-hour episode, "The Voice" social media correspondent and actress Christina Milian put her inner beast on display with a creative paso doble that prompted one judge to deem her "an intriguing little monster."
During a pre-performance taped segment, Milian's pro partner Mark Ballas, who's won two "DWTS" titles, stressed the importance of standing out from the rest of the couples. To do so, he explained that their paso doble would feature a "gaudy king and queen vibe." Milian seemed completely on board with the concept, calling it "very fierce" before letting loose with an extended cackle that Ballas found disturbing.
When they hit the ballroom to perform live to Lady Gaga's "Applause," Milian and Ballas were spot-on. The actress played her role expertly, coupling near-perfect expression with excellent footwork and interesting choreography. It was fun to watch and completely engaging.
All three judges were impressed. Bruno Tonioli called Milian "an intriguing little monster" and praised her for putting her own stamp on the routine. Carrie Ann Inaba said she was "on fire" and called the effort "insane." Len Goodman appreciated her focus and fierce demeanor.
For their effort, Milian and Ballas earned a very respectable 25 points, which tied them with "Saved by the Bell" alum Elizabeth Berkley Lauren and Val Chmerkovskiy for second place on the week two leader board. Their two-week score of 47 points placed them behind leaders Amber Riley and Derek Hough by just four points.
Milian and Ballas will return to perform again when the "Dancing with the Stars" fall 2013 season resumes on Sept. 30 with Hollywood night.
