When the "Dancing with the Stars" fall 2013 season premieres Sept. 16 on ABC, former Boston Red Sox star Jason Varitek will not be part of the celebrity cast, according to an Aug. 22 tweet by his wife Catherine.
The tweet, which included a link to a Hollywood Life article and the text "Sorry, Jason won't be dancing this year," came as a follow-up to an Aug. 9 tweet in which Catherine suggested Jason might be a "DWTS" season 17 contender. Catherine went on to confirm via another tweet that no invitation had been extended, and that her husband would "rather golf" than dance.
Jason spent his entire 15-year career with the Red Sox before announcing his retirement in March of 2012.
Although scores of talented athletes ranging from figure skaters to NFL star have taken to the ballroom to dance for the coveted mirror ball trophy over the hit reality show's 16 seasons, Major League Baseball has yet to be represented.
To find out which celebrities will indeed round out the "Dancing with the Stars" fall 2013 cast and perform alongside popular returning pros including Derek Hough, Val Chmerkovskiy and Karina Smirnoff, watch "Good Morning America" on Sept. 4 for the official lineup reveal.
