The "Dancing with the Stars" fall 2013 season kicks off Sept. 16 on ABC with an all-new cast of celebrity mirror ball trophy hopefuls. In the absence of available lineup spoilers, an Aug. 21 Hollywood Life article quoting a supposed show insider named an interesting group of potential participants, including a "Teen Mom" and a well-known ex-MLB star.
The notable names dropped included "Full House" actor and yogurt spokesman John Stamos, former Boston Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek, disgraced celebrity chef Paula Deen, actor and comedian Seth MacFarlane, Disney star Bella Thorne, "Teen Mom" Farrah Abraham and an unnamed WWE wrestler. The strangest name on the list is that of tanning mom Patricia Krentcil, whose status as an actual celebrity is debatable at best.
The source claimed that the celebs named had all been "asked" to do "DWTS," but said that none of them were "definites" for season 17. Despite the article's claims, the only definite in the pack is in fact Deen, whose camp released a statement on Aug. 7 declining her invitation to compete.
Thorne, who co-stars with season 16 runner-up Zendaya on "Shake it Up," seems a viable lineup candidate, as does Varitek, whose wife Catherine tweeted on Aug. 9 to ask fans if he should try out for "DWTS."
Strangely missing from the purported list of candidates are two celebrities who publicly confirmed their interest in participating in season 17. Indy car champion Tony Kanaan told Hollywood Life on July 10 that he was "in talks" to appear, while country singer Jo Dee Messina used an Aug. 15 Facebook post to share that she hoped to make the fall season cast.
