DWTS elimination recap: David Hasselhoff goes home, The Situation survives

Dancing with the Stars results show: The votes are in on DWTS with this season's first elimination. The first couple to go home? David Hasselhoff and partner Kim Johnson were eliminated on Tuesday night's show, leaving ten couples left to compete on next Monday's show. The "Hoff" ended his appearance with his final dance and cheers from the audience.

Best line of the night? "The Situation" referred to Bristol Palin and said, "I didn't know there was a route from Alaska to California." Is that like Sarah Palin saying she could see Russia from her backyard?

The bottom four contestants up for elimination on Tuesday night were Michael Bolton, Margaret Cho, David Hasselhoff and Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino.

After a live performance by the legendary group, Santana, hosts Tom Bergeron and Brooke Burke announced the first two couples safe from elimination. Michael Bolton and partner Chelsea Hightower were named first followed by Margaret Cho and partner Louis Van Amstel.

Prior to the announcement of two more "safe" couples, Adam Corolla did a short skit about the origin of several ballroom dances and musician Daughtry performed on stage.

The next four couples safe were: Rick Fox and Cheryl Burke; Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough;  Audrina Partridge and Tony Dovalani;  Florence Henderson and Corky Ballas.

The show continued on with more music from Daughtry and Santana. They performed a duet of the song, "Photograph."

Tom Bergeron announced two more couples who were safe from elimination:

R&B singer-songwriter Brandy and her partner Maksim Chmerkovskly as well as Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas.

This left Kyle Massey, Kurt Warner, The Situation and David Hasselhoff to await their fate after yet another commercial break. The show ended with David Hasselhoff and partner Kim Johnson heading home after week one of DWTS.

ABC is celebrating the 11th season of DWTS - 21 million people watched the two hour season premiere on Monday, making it a number one choice for viewers across the country. Watch the next round of competition on Dancing with the Stars on Monday, September 27 on ABC.
