With just hours remaining before the "Dancing with the Stars" 2014 cast is officially revealed during "Good Morning America," a series of March 3 tweets by a selection of show spoiler sources dished on the statuses of several rumored celebrity participants, potential pairings, and the promise of a jaw dropping partner for five-time mirror ball trophy winner Derek Hough.
A day after "Full House" actress Candace Cameron Bure was confirmed as a cast member, Aussie singer and teen heartthrob Cody Simpson, who first revealed that he'd been asked to compete back in December, essentially confirmed his own participation by tweeting "big announcement tomorrow!" to his 6.4 million followers. The 17-year old Simpson's professional partner is likely to be "SYTYCD" alum Witney Carson, whose mother briefly followed Simpson on Twitter until entertainment writer Kristyn Burtt pointed it out.
Swimmer Diana Nyad outed herself as a contestant by tweeting a photo from the show's March 3 photo shoot with the caption "Watch GMA tomorrow...hint, hint."
Also confirmed as part of the cast by @DWTSGossip are Olympic ice dance gold medalists Meryl Davis and Charlie White. Although no one has yet commented on White's pro partner, Courtney from PureDWTS caused a stir when she revealed that Davis would not, as widely expected, be paired up with Hough, who choreographed the pair's "My Fair Lady" short program for the Sochi Olympics.
Instead, Courtney asserted that "jaws will drop" when Hough's partner is finally revealed, and that many fans will find the pairing "very rewarding, if you let go of the notion of good dancers vs. bad ones," prompting speculation that the lady in question will be either elderly or disabled.
Both Cheryl Burke and Karina Smirnoff posted teaser photos involving their respective partners. On March 2, Smirnoff shared a picture of herself stretching an unseen man's feet along with the caption "Guess who?" Given that former NHL star Sean Avery recently began following Smirnoff on Instagram, he seems the most likely candidate. Meanwhile, March 3 saw Burke post a photo of herself wearing dark-rimmed glasses from the morning's "DWTS" photo shooting, prompting speculation that the frames may belong to her celebrity partner.
A late-day report by the Daily News claimed that reality star Bruce Jenner will appear, but did not provide information regarding this pro partner. Rumor Fix also reported that Billy Dee Williams will compete.
Finally, although none have officially confirmed participation, "The Chew" personality Carla Hall, "Big Time Rush" star James Maslow, and "Real Housewives of Altanta" alum NeNe Leakes are rumored to be part of the season 18 cast.
The professional dancers taking part include Hough, Smirnoff, Burke, Carson, Tony Dovolani, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Val Chmerkovskiy, Mark Ballas, Henry Byalikov, Emma Slater, Sharna Burgess, and Peta Murgatroyd.
"Dancing with the Stars" 2014 premieres March 17 on ABC.
