"Dancing with the Stars" 2013 resumed Oct. 14 on ABC with an evening of performances inspired by the remaining celebrities' most memorable years. Although the show was jam-packed with emotional numbers, it was the shocking show-ending elimination that made the most lasting impression of all.
Despite earning a share of the top spot on the Oct. 7 leader board and a very respectable 26 points for their Oct. 14 jive, "Saved by the Bell" alum Elizabeth Berkley and Val Chmerkovskiy were the first couple sent to the danger zone by show host Tom Bergeron, just moments after they received their scores.
With one pair already in danger of elimination, Tom and co-host Brooke Burke proclaimed six couples safe. In order, the pairs saved to dance again included "High School Musical" star Corbin Bleu and Karina Smirnoff, "Glee" actress Amber Riley and Derek Hough, comedian Bill Engvall and Emma Slater, reality star Jack Osbourne and Cheryl Burke, "Pretty Little Liars" actor Brant Daugherty and Peta Murgatroyd and "Jersey Shore" alum Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi and Sasha Farber.
Three couples remained as the rest trooped backstage. Elizabeth and Val were quickly advanced to the Oct. 21 edition of "DWTS," leaving singer Christina Milian and Mark Ballas, the evening's high-scorers, and actress Leah Remini and Tony Dovolani, the week's leader board bottom-dwellers, as the final two pairs standing.
After a dramatic pause, the live audience released a collective gasp as Christina and Mark were booted from the competition.
Christina, who looked dazed, called her ouster "true shock" but was pleased to go out on a very high note. Mark praised his partner for going "out with a bang" by earning season 17's first perfect 10, and the singer and social media correspondent for "The Voice" smiled as she said she'd learned a lot about herself from taking part in the competition.
Christina's early elimination is reminiscent of that of Sabrina Bryan, who was also partnered with Mark and was shown the door during week six of "DWTS" season five.
"Dancing with the Stars" 2013 continues Oct. 21 with another round of performances by the couples still vying for the mirror ball trophy.
