Dwight Howard rumors aren't stopping, especially with a new report from CBS Sports. A Howard trade rumor has him getting discussed as a component in a Los Angeles Lakers to Boston Celtics deal. According to the report from late Friday night (Feb. 15), the Celtics and Lakers were having preliminary discussions of swapping Howard and Rajon Rondo in a possible deal.
CBS Sports appears content to stick with that story, even though ESPN is taking the other side of these rumors. Apparently LA Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak is claiming that he hasn't talked to Celtics GM Danny Ainge in weeks, possibly quelling these rumors completely. That hasn't slowed down the rumor mill completely, though, as it was still buzzing as NBA analysts began discussing the festivities at the 2013 NBA All-Star Game.
On the surface, a trade of Rondo for Howard would also need to include other pieces, as Howard makes much more than Rondo in salary. It would certainly be intriguing for Celtics fans to see both Kevin Garnett and Howard on the court at the same time, but these rumors appear to have a lot of holes in them. This includes a statement from Howard saying that he has already been told that the Lakers aren't going to trade him this season.
With the NBA trade deadline coming up on Feb. 21, there is still time for teams to get together and make deals for this season. It will likely lead to many new 2013 NBA trade rumors popping up, even if half of them turn out to be false. The last of the Dwight Howard rumors have likely not taken place yet either, especially because he is set to become a free agent at the end of the regular season. His impending free agency will certainly lead to rumors about where he might be playing next year.
If a deal did go down between the Boston Celtics and LA Lakers, it could certainly shake up the look of fantasy basketball teams next season. The odds of this deal actually going down appear quite slim though.
