Dwight Howard, 7-time NBA All Star, recently spoke at Woodlands Church where Kerry Shook is pastor, and shared his testimony of hearing and following God’s voice, according to thetruthtelevision.com, December 11, 2013.
In a series “The Power of Honor,” Kerry Shook interviewed Howard,28, before his congregation when he revealed how he made the decision to play for the Houston Rockets.
Howard had a Christian upbringing, and athletic parents. He graduated from a Christian high school in Atlanta, Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy; one of 16 in his graduating class. His father was the Athletic Director of the school and his mother made the inaugural women’s basketball team at Morris Brown College.
In July 2013, he signed a contract with the Houston Rocket.
As a Christian, Howard wanted to make the right decision, and follow God’s purpose for his life. He explains: the two-year process was one of the hardest things I did in my life.
God had instructed Dwight to go to Houston, but he went to L.A., and he encountered a back injury, which left him almost immobilized for 5-6 months in bed. Howard believes that his disobedience landed him the back injury.
This summer after he signed to go with Houston, he is in a much better place; mentally, spiritually and physically - Kerry Shook.
Greatness can come from anywhere, even a tiny Christian school with only 16 graduating seniors.
