Dwight Howard made his debut with the Houston Rockets Saturday (Oct. 5), playing in a preseason game against the New Orleans Pelicans. Howard played 27 minutes, shooting 6-for-11 from the field. He was also an improved 7-for-11 from the free throw line.
The new center for the Rockets finished with 19 points, nine rebounds, and one block in his first game, but it wasn't enough to propel the team to a win. The Pelicans pulled this game out 116-115, backed by 26 points from Anthony Morrow and 21 from Austin Rivers off the bench.
22 turnovers by the Rockets ended up being the downfall here, as the team shot 57.4 percent from the field. It looks like defense could also be a potential problem for the team as well, but that might change when Howard and the rest of the starters are playing a full game's worth of minutes.
This is a great look at Dwight Howard when it comes to fantasy basketball owners, as it shows he is ready to put up some big numbers with the team. If he could average 20 points and 12 rebounds per game, he could be an extremely valuable player to grab in one of the first two rounds of any draft.
