Dwayne Johnson's newest film "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" will begin filming in Hawaii next week.
Johnson, who is of African Canadian/Samoan descent (his Father is Canadian and mother Samoan) will take over the lead in this sequel from Brendan Fraser, who starred in last year's 3D remake of "Journey to the Center of the Earth."
Deadline.com reports that Kristin Davis will star alongside Johnson in the film which is a direct sequel to "Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D."
Davis and Johnson will also be joined by Michael Caine and Vanessa Hudgens.
Davis will play the film's primary love interest for action hero Johnson, as well as the mother of the returning Josh Hutcherson's character.
Johnson will star as the boyfriend of Hutcherson’s mom who is forced to bring him on a trip to find his missing grandfather on a mythical island.
The film is loosely based on Jules Verne’s “The Mysterious Island.”
"Journey 2" will be released in 3D and is slated to be released on September 23, 2011.
