Dwayne Johnson, the former wrestler also known as The Rock, is ranked No. 1 on Forbes magazine's list of the highest-grossing movie actors of 2013. Forbes announced the 10 actors on the list on Dec. 16, 2013. The rankings were based on the gross revenue at the worldwide box office for the actors' movies released in 2013.

Johnson is No. 1 on the list because of his starring roles in the blockbusters "Fast & Furious 6" and "G.I. Joe: Retaliation." He had also had a smaller hits with "Pain & Gain" and "Snitch."

"Fast & Furious 6" co-stars Vin Diesel and the late Paul Walker are also on the list. Diesel is No. 4, and Walker is No. 6. Diesel also had a hit in 2013 with "Riddick."

Three actors are on the list mainly because of their voice work in animated movies: Steve Carell (who is No. 3 on the list) for "Despicable Me 2" and "Monsters University" voice actors Billy Crystal and John Goodman, who are both tied at No. 7 on the list. Carell's movie "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues" was released after this list was compiled. However, Carell's other two movies released in 2013 — "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone" and "The Way, Way Back" — were part of the revenue totals. "The Way, Way Back" was an indie hit, while "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone" was a major studio flop.

Marvel superhero movies were responsible for putting Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Hemsworth on the list. Downey is No. 2, thanks to his starring role in "Iron Man 3," while Hemsworth is No. 9 for his starring role in "Thor: The Dark World." Hemsworth also starred in "Rush," which was not a big hit, but the movie's gross revenue was part of the totals that determined the rankings.

The only two women on the list are Sandra Bullock (No. 5), who starred in the massive hits "The Heat" and "Gravity," and Jennifer Lawrence (No. 10), on the strength of her starring role in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire." The list was compiled before Lawrence's movie "American Hustle" was released.

All of the above-named movies are currently available on DVD, Blu-ray, digital download and VOD except for "Riddick," "Gravity," "Thor: The Dark World," "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" and "American Hustle," which will all premiere on VOD in 2014 on dates to be announced.

Here is Forbes' list of the highest-grossing actors of 2013:
