May 31, 2011 – Director Victor Mignatti presents This Time, a music documentary that follows six recording artists on the verge of their next moment in the spotlight.
This Time stars composer Peitor Angell as he produces the legendary Sweet Inspirations’ first album in 23 years. The Sweet Inspirations – Myrna Smith, Estelle Brown, and Portia Griffin – were Elvis Presley’s back-up singers throughout the last eight years of his life. They also recorded background sessions with the likes of Aretha Franklin, Jimi Hendrix, and Luther Vandross, and developed seven albums of their own from 1967 to 1979. The film includes original Sweet Inspirations Cissy Houston (the mother of Whitney Houston and aunt of Dionne Warwick) and the late Sylvia Shemwell.
Angell likewise produced Pat Hodges’ first album in 25 years. Hodges had tasted fame in the late 70’s but became homeless living in South Central Los Angeles. With Angell she created three top ten singles on the Billboard Club Chart: “You Make Me Feel G-O-O-D,” “Love Revolution,” and “Saving My Love,” which stayed at #3 on the charts for two weeks.
Mignatti presents Bobby Belfry, a cabaret singer in New York, as he continues to search for the next step up in his career. Belfry is an award winning singer/songwriter whose latest album Live: In The Heart of the Universe is garnering airplay on Free FM in New York and around the US.
This Time is about music artists’ pursuit for their dreams, as lived in real life, much unlike the overnight successes seen on American Idol. This Time shows the passion and the hard work required from artists if they are to make their art known, despite a difficult music industry and the daily need for sustenance.
This Time is scheduled to be in stores today. Find out more about it at http://www.thistimemovie.com
