The Dutchland All-Stars traveled north to take on the Long Island All Stars from Long Island, New York on Saturday June 14th, 2014. The Dutchland All-Stars took a sizable lead over Long Island with a score of 149-66. Dutchland was able to maintain their lead and took the win over the Long Island All-Stars with a final score of 267-166. Dutchland MVP blocker was Marie Antiothreat and Raggedy Aneurysm was named Dutchland MVP jammer. The next weekend, the Dutchland All-Stars traveled to the Philly Roller Girls’ annual tournament, ECDX, to face off against Roc City in a WFTDA sanctioned bout. Roc City claimed the win over the Dutchland All-Stars 242-92, but a number of other skaters for the Dutchland Rollers participated in challenge bouts and scrimmages throughout the weekend. This year is the eighth year running for ECDX, held at the SportsPlex in Feasterville, PA from June 20-22. Each year skaters from all over the country, and foreign countries as well, converge on the Sportsplex for three days of derby. This year 50 bouts were held. Some bouts were WFTDA (Women’s Flat Track Derby Association), MRDA (Men’s Roller Derby Association), and JRDA (Junior Roller Derby Association) sanctioned, while additional regulation and non-regulation bouts were also held. The wins and losses of the sanctioned bouts influenced team rankings, while regulation and non-regulation bouts were played for fun and experience. Since ECDX began, the tournament has exponentially increased in size each year. In 2014, the Philly Roller Girls estimated 1,500 skaters, officials, and support staff participating in the event, and an additional 1,000 roller derby fans in the stands. Bouts played on rinks 2 and 3 were also broadcast via internet stream on WFTDA.tv allowing thousands of additional roller derby fans to cheer on their leagues remotely. Additionally, numerous vendors of all things derby sold their wares throughout the SportsPlex. Without a doubt, ECDX will continue to gain momentum and increase in popularity for both players and spectators of the sport of roller derby.
