The Watering Hole
Higher Ground Newsletter, 6th Edition, September, 2013
“And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power.” I Corinthians 2:4 (NKJV)
• Kent Henry ministered at July 26-28 at Faith Family Life Church and Higher Ground. His ministry is to “intermingle prayer and praise and worship and intercession,” and what a powerful time of praise, prayer, worship and intercession we experienced!
• James Nesbitt will minister at Higher Ground at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27; 9 a.m., 1 p.m. and 7 pm. Saturday, Sept. 27; and 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 28.
• Paul Costas will minister at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 4-5, and 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 6.
The Coming ‘Third Great, Greater Awakening’
The “Great Awakening” was “an intense and widespread religious revival in 18th-century America,” starting in Jew Jersey around 1726, whose leaders were Jonathan Edwards and George Whitefield. This movement then spread around the world. A Second Great Awakening began in the 1790s. Charles Finney is linked with this second wave of revival.
Apostle Dutch Sheets, internationally known speaker and intercessor, as well as key component of the spiritual covering of Higher Ground Ministries, ministered at Faith Family Life Church August 23-25. Dutch believes God has called him to prepare the nation for a ‘third Great, Greater Awakening’ or nationwide revival.
Dutch Accepts Call to Direct Christ For the Nations Institute
During the Saturday afternoon meeting, after prophetic declarations by our Kansas covering, Sandy Newman and DeeAnn Ward, Dutch affirmed his call to serve as Executive Director of Christ for the Nations Institute, the position formerly held by the late Gordon Lindsay, founder of CFNI. What an honor to share this experience with him.
Dutch preached with great depth, power and authority, reflecting a lifetime of commitment to studying and expounding the Word of God, as well as extraordinary humility. What a blessing to have him with us in Topeka.
Charles Parham Preaching at John G. Lake’s Church When Gordon Lindsay Received Salvation
As many of you may know, the Pentecostal movement in America started in Topeka with Charles Parham and his Bethel Healing Home at a partially completed castle called Stone’s Folly, in 1901 on the grounds of what is now Most Pure Heart of Mary Church.
According to Roberts Liardon in The Azusa Street Revival (Destiny Image, 2006), Charles Parham, in the winter of 1924, during a tour of meetings in Oregon and Washington, was preaching in healing evangelist John G. Lake’s church when Gordon Lindsay, founder of Christ For the Nations, received salvation (p. 84). Higher Ground’s Jim O’Neil confirms that, indeed, John G. Lake, a contemporary of Charles Parham, pastored a church in Spokane, Washington.
Now, 89 years after Gordon Lindsay, founder of Christ for the Nations Instutute, received salvation through the preaching of Charles Parham of the Topeka Bethel Healing Home, Dutch Sheets, also a CFNI graduate, announces during a series of meetings in Topeka, that he will officially accept the call to be executive director of CFNI. As Sandy kept saying over the weekend, “You can’t make this up.”
“Will You Give Me 15 Minutes?”
Worship leader and intercessor Julie Meyer of the International House of Prayer in Kansas City, Mo. also participated in the Saturday Aug. 24meeting, sharing her prophetic dream about ambulances coming to the house of God and people “singing the Old, Old Story,” and she brought forth the exhortation for a daily commitment to pray.
“Give me 15 minutes” became the theme of the weekend, and is being echoed at Higher Ground and elsewhere in Kansas. Sandy Newman said we were starting a trend, both with the “Give Me 15 Minutes” call to prayer and a WWJS (“What Would Jesus Say?”) movement, the theme of a recently published book by Sandy.
Will You Help The Ones I Died For?
The world is in a state of chaos like never before in our lifetime, undeniably moving closer to the return of our Lord. Although no one knows the hour or the day, we can certainly discern that the times in which we are living are the end times of which Jesus spoke in Matthew 24 and elsewhere. (“wars and rumors of wars…nation… against nation… kingdom against kingdom… famines pestilences, and earthquakes in various places” (Matthew 24:6-9)
Jim O’Neil submitted the following poem/song the Lord gave him. It fits our theme of a Third Great, Greater Awakening and revival here in Topeka and across the nation and world.
Will you help the ones I died for? And love them as your

You know you have a prideful spirit; can you keep your
mouth and tongue?
Then hide your riches in My temple, expecting it to be
I would have you in My city, drawing ever close to Me,
But along with you I’d have the others; pray for them to
be set free.
I say the fields are white to harvest, do you hear the
The Blood poured out at Calvary, it’s sufficient for you all.

“My grace is sufficient is for you, for my strength is made perfect in weakness.” 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NKJV)
We are thirsty for more of the LORD!!! How about you?
