“Dutch Arcadia,” a collection of 19th century Dutch Countryside paintings and drawings, opens at the Holland Museum, Holland, Michigan, April 8, 2011.
Ranging from dramatic to pastoral, the paintings capture idyllic landscapes of a bygone era quite different from the country’s modern countryside, according to Museum Executive Director Thea Grigsby.
"The vision of a Dutch Arcadia evokes lush scenes of unspoiled nature, the opposite of the orderly, well-manicured fields we commonly think of today as typically Dutch," said Grigsby.
Details; The exhibition contains 22 works loaned or donated by the Beekhuis Foundation. "Dutch Arcadia" runs April 8 through Sept. 25, 2011 at the Holland Museum, about a three hours drive north of Chicago.
