The Dutch Beatles Tribute Band Love and Mersey played for 10,000 fans at the "Beatles Forever" Festival in Minsk in 2007. Backstage, the group's lead singer Marcel also met his future wife Anna from Moscow there for the first time. They married last year.
As a gesture to their friends and Beatles fans in the former USSR, the band recorded a cover of the Beatles song "Back in the USSR" -- in Russian, the band told us today. You can see it in the video at left, which was posted on YouTube recently. Except for the Russian lyrics, it's very faithful to the original.
The Beatles' lyrics were translated by Anna Krasnopeeva. Marcel produced the video from film of the group's visit to Minsk and Marcel's many visits to Russia.
