1. Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? What's your background?
As a child I grew up in several different countries and then moved to Greenwich, Ct. when I was a teenager. After college, I lived and worked in New York City and received two Master’s Degrees, one in Health Education and one in Social Work. I have worked in public relations, event management and as a therapist to students at New York University.
These days, I teach dance, play tennis, am married to a wonderful man named John and am a joyous mom to three kids, ages, 11, 6 and 4. I especially love teaching sensual dance as it is a perfectly wonderful counterbalance to my daily routine doing things like grocery shopping, driving kids to school, and playing with and helping them with homework.
I spent my twenties trying to ‘become’ someone professionally and personally, my thirties, starting a family and taking on responsibilities outside of myself. On many days I truly didn’t know who I was anymore. I think we can all feel that as women sometimes, trying to juggle it all.
That is why I love teaching sensual dance to women. I don’t know a whole lot more than other women about what it takes to be the best we can be and to feel creative and sexy. I do know though, that when I am more connected to the softer, more playful, sexy part of myself, my life just works better whether I am with my kids or my husband or the checkout person at the grocery store.
My most simple, yet outrageous adventure right now, is at age 44 is that of inspiring myself and others to live fully, excitedly, passionately and feeling sensual in the midst of our day to day busyness and routine.
2. How did you get involved in erotic dance? How long have you been teaching?
I’m kind of like a sponge, I have always tried to soak up creative qualities I’ve admired in other women whether that person was a great boss, a best friend, a professional dancer, a stripper, or these days, my four-year-old daughter! I think life is much about learning to accept ourselves fully - physically, emotionally, sensually, spiritually - and it can be an immense challenge, one I am very much still learning. It’s probably why I love teaching these classes so much. It keeps me on my path.
I have always been intrigued by exotic dance and would take classes here and there depending on where I lived at the time. Unfortunately, I have found that exotic dance classes are not offered by many studios so they can be difficult to find.
One of my closest friends put herself through college as a go go dancer and she taught me many fun moves over the years. I learn best by doing, so I choreographed a few dance routines, set up the structure for a sensual dance class and began teaching at a local studio which already offered pole dancing, belly dancing and hoop classes. Women loved the class and thus began my foray into teaching exotic dance. Eventually, that studio went out of business, as many pole dancing studios do as it can be difficult to attract women to try out the classes, although once they take the classes, they become hooked! Now I teach at Core Movement Studio in Boulder, Colorado.
