Dust off your screenplay and let's get it published

If you are an aspiring screen writer, finding like-minded people may be hard and challenging. After all, it’s not like your neighbor or friend across town is also a screenwriter – which is why it’s important to be part of a group of fellow screenwriters.

Screenwriters are unique groups of writers. Screenwriting is very different from most types of writing. Not necessarily difficult, just different. So once you mastered your screenwriting style, you’ll want feedback from other screenwriters – to see where you can improve in plot, character development or scene.

That’s where screenwriter meet up groups come in. Screenwriter meet up groups are located in most major cities and if you’re lucky, you may have two or three in your area. Here in Chandler, Arizona, we have Phoenix Screenwriters Association (formerly PSPG).

Phoenix Screenwriters Association is a place where screenwriters can network and become educated in the screenwriting process. They offer workshops, professional guest speaker lectures, writing socials and writing labs to help screenwriters develop their writing skills. Or as they say “it is all about screenwriters and promoting screenwriters. We welcome any screenwriter or filmmaker who wants to write and finish projects.”

Phoenix Screenwriters Association will even do everything that they can to help you sell your screenplay. They keep an updated list of film projects, productions companies looking for new scripts and how to promote your screenplay. They’ll do everything but write your screenplay for you (although you may receive plenty of editing feedback during one of their “table reads” or writing labs).

Phoenix Screenwriters Association usually meets in Tempe – only minutes away from Chandler. They make it easy to find out when the next meeting is and what type of event it will be. If you’re really lucky, you may just get to rub shoulders with an award winning screenwriter.

So reach into your desk drawer and pull out your screenplay that you were too bashful to show to anyone. Find out when Phoenix Screenwriters Association meets next and learn how to get your screenplay published. Who knows, you may just get your name up in lights.
