Durham puts the spotlight on culinary tourism with TASTE event

Culinary travelers flock to Durham, N.C. regularly to taste some of the best cuisine in the state so it's no surprise that the city is about to put the spotlight even more on its gourmet scene with TASTE The Event 2014. TASTE is a five-day festival of food and beverage events, taking place in Durham and Chapel Hill between April 23 – 27, 2014.

Bev Carr, Director of Events for TASTE says: "TASTE 2014 celebrates the Triangle's reputation as a culinary epicenter, providing the Piedmont's top chefs & beverage professionals an opportunity to showcase their talents. The chefs, pastry chefs, wine, beer & spirits experts will delight the palates of event guests."

TASTE 2014 will kick off with an Opening Cocktail Reception at TOPO Distillery on Wednesday, April 23, featuring local distilled spirits and hors d’oeuvres prepared by local food dignitaries Belinda Ellis, Taylor Mathis, Debbie Moose, Fred Thompson and Andrea Weigl.

The festival will wrap up will wrap up on April 27 with a family-friendly Bluegrass, Brews & BBQ Buffet Dinner at the Weathervane Patio at Southern Season in Chapel Hill. The festival will include additional multiple events during the five-day period.

The signature event will be the Grand TASTE Experience at the Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC), on Thursday evening, April 24. Dozens of beverage purveyors and local chefs will offer samples of their wine, beer, spirits and food offerings . A portion of ticket proceeds from that event will be donated to the Durham branch of the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, as will all proceeds from a Silent Auction.

Thursday, April 24 – Grand TASTE Experience at Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC), Durham

Friday, April 25 – TASTE of Italy Wine Dinner at Il Palio Ristorante, with Executive Chef Teddy Diggs, Chapel Hill

Friday, April 25 – Late Night Drinks and Dessert Reception at Piedmont Restaurant, Durham

Saturday, April 26 - Farmers Market Shop, Cook and Taste with Chefs Katie Coleman and Gwen Cummings Maller at Durham Farmers Market and Durham Spirits Company, Durham

Saturday, April 26 – Chef Ricky Moore and Chef Adam Rose pair with two wine masters, Fred Dexheimer, MS and Sheri Sauter Morano, MW, at Black Market Restaurant at Straw Valley, Durham

Sunday, April 27 – Family-Friendly Gospel Brunch at Carolina Inn, Chapel Hill

Sunday, April 27 – Bluegrass, Brews and BBQ Buffet Dinner at The Weathervane, Chapel Hill

TASTE 2014 is presented by Durham Magazine and Chapel Hill Magazine, which seek to celebrate the diverse business, residential, artistic and academic communities that exist in Durham and Chapel Hill.
